Our city's first Olympics is less than a year away and we want to share our excitement with you!
By: Ed
With less than a year left until the Winter Olympics roll into town, I've built up my excitement to a level I’ve never experienced in my life. The facilities look amazing and to have one of the premier buildings, the Olympic Oval, in the community you've called home for over ten years is something that words cannot describe! The Canada Line looks great, and after the Olympics, it will leave a legacy by connecting Richmond and greater Vancouver. The hearts and souls poured into all of the projects have really shone through, and I’m sure the efforts of every individual who made these projects possible won’t be wasted!
Having watched the Olympics ever since I was little, I have always dreamed of experiencing an event myself. I remember watching the men’s gold medal hockey game between Canada and the U.S.; the final score was 5-2, for Canada. When they raised the Canadian flag and sang the anthem, I stared at the television in awe. It was a feeling that I cherish forever, and I hoped I could be a part of that one day! Now, not only is my dream coming true, but also the dreams of many Olympians who will be entering their very first Olympic games.
The day of the opening ceremony may seem far away, but I know I’m not the only one anxiously counting down! When the calendar hits February 2010, the world's attention will be locked on us. It has been nearly six years since Vancouver won the bid, and now we're about to throw a party the world has never seen before. Buckle up folks! Get ready for the adrenaline that will rush through your body as our fellow Canadians compete in search of gold and Olympic pride!
What do you think about the upcoming 2010 Winter Olympics? Send us your opinion, and we just may publish it!
